I recently bought a new computer that is windows vista. All my discs for programs are windows XP because that is what my last computer was. Will they be compatible?

Okay i have a windows vista computer and i cant seem to get my mic to work. It used to fine but now its not picking up anything, When i plug it in it says that its there but its not receiveing anything. Does anyone no why that is,
There was a box that used to come up and ask me stuff like microphone, input/output stuff like that but now it doesnt come up and its almost like i cant access my microphone.

I lost my camera’s memory card, and I would like to check some type of activity log that may or may not exist in my computer for the last time I accessed that removable drive. Where can I find something like this? I am running Windows Vista. Thanks!
